Benoni High School Gathering 2007

Straight outta Benoni .. Again.

21 July 2007

We left dark and early again to get through to Benoni by lunch time. It was great to take a break at the Vaal Engen garage and kick the rugga ball around a bit - something we havent done for a while.

The usual stop outside Harrismith was super speedy with our new roving pit crew. Matt does the windows while Tom tries to write all sorts of rubbish on my widscreen with soap.

St Paddy's

St Patricks College from Kiberley or some place like it made a showing in the NJ section and were a very different breath of air. Some of the tunes had a distinct Shaka Zulu/Ipitombi feel to them. Only Joey Jordison has played more bass beats/minute.
Sonia and her side-kick

"I'll call him Mini Me"...

The novice juveniles were on first. Fortunately the weather wasnt too bad. It was a little windy and some of the guys had to help out a granny with her gazebo.. "Chivalry is still alive.." The novice juvie's have certainly improved leaps and bounds.

Spinning Class

Eddie giving Tania a few last minute pointers on the intricate art of flourishing. The days of "wave them in the air like you just dont care" are gone!

Its a lot of work getting the right photos for the site - for every page I have to sift through hundreds of pics.. but that's half the fun!

Benoni Beef

The girls went out looking for a male equivalent to the Melvin's Maiden of the Month... this was about as good as it got. Sheesh!

Classy, very classy..

Break a Leg!

Jerro and the boys at SAMHS have been put on a rigorous PT program. The catch is it seems to be doing more harm than good! 3 Injuries in 2 weeks including Tich's cracked ribs, Daniel's sprained ankle and Jeremy's broken ankle. Nice set of flashes on the cast.

When Richmond went on for their set, the band set up a drum stand - not the first time it's been done this year with Nick Tyler from Maritzburg having to do the same at South Coast - Look after yourselves guys!

Novice Juveniles including David "Jerry" Springer from Grahamstown. Great to have you with us bru!

Wanted: Drone reed.

Shake it to the left... shake it to the right. McReedy's Law of the Drone Reed: "If it can fall out into your bag, it just did."

The Gr4 Band with Tom popping up in the backround..

Sonia's transport

Sonia is going for her licence soon and had her eye set on a novel form of transport. Though I doubt you would save much petrol on this bad-boy in comparison to the Honie Mobile...

1MED, despite disappointing results on the day, had still done enough to walk away with the Champions of Champions title for 2007.

The Jocks walked away as Champions of Champions for the year in Grade 2. They are off to Russia in September to perform at the Kremlin Zoria in Moscow. Wayne will be going with as a side drummer for the event.

Beware of limitations

Beware - there are imitation Melvins and Makatini's floating all over the show lately.. you shouldn't be fooled by the mustard ones though.

Ed's Empire

I am going to put Ed in charge of the next batch of T-Shirts (yes, Francious, I have made yours) His was much cooler than the latest batch...

Everyone getting over the results of the day.

Thanks to everyone involved in the running of the gathering! It feels like it has been an especially short season, the question is - when is the new SUMMER SEASON going to kick in last I heard was 2008?!
